Despite all of Sweden's adjacent territory being engulfed by Nazi Germany in the early 1940s, Sweden
forcefully declared its' neutrality.  Raising a significant army, Sweden made it clear that a German
invasion would be costly.  Sweden's army grew to a force of 85,000 to 320,000 in the week following
the German invasion of Denmark.

Sweden did allow German material and troops to move through the country until it became clear
Germany would not have the means to impose its' will on Sweden in August 1943.  Sweden and
Germany also traded natural resources, something both countries desperately needed.

By building up its' armed forces and taking a defensive posture, Sweden was able to avoid a German
invasion.  By sticking to its' neutrality, Sweden was also able to stay out of the military aspect of the
war completely.
