The United States clung to its' vow of neutrality at the outbreak of World War II. However, the United States
government began to take actions in preparation of war. On October 16, 1940, the United States began its' first
peace time draft. The Lend-Lease Act, granting aid to Allied nations, was signed in March 1941. Nine months
later, the United States of America was attacked by the Empire of Japan at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
The next day, America declared war on Japan. On December 11, 1941, Germany declared war on the United
States, guaranteeing a two-front war for America.
American forces would fight alongside the Allies in Europe and shoulder most of the fighting in the Pacific. World
War II would come to an end when the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki in August 1945.
